Planning Approval for No.51

No.51

We are delighted to share that planning permission has been granted for the refurbishment and extension of Hinxton Village Hall.
The project has been developed to give the village a more flexible, accessible and energy-efficient community building, while retaining the character and familiarity of the existing hall.
Rather than replacing the building, the design works with what is already there. The existing hall and its distinctive flint wall are retained and incorporated into the proposals, with new additions carefully arranged around the existing fabric to provide the extra space and facilities the village needs.
The approved scheme includes a refurbished main hall, a new entrance area and approach, new kitchen and WC facilities, better accessibility throughout, and redesigned external spaces including parking, cycle provision and landscaping.
Sustainability has also been an important part of the design from the outset. The proposals significantly improve the performance of the existing building fabric and introduce an all-electric approach to the building, including an air source heat pump and photovoltaic panels, helping reduce the hall's long-term energy use and environmental impact.
Externally, the design uses a restrained palette of materials that responds to the rural character of Hinxton, combining the retained flintwork with timber cladding and traditional roof materials. New interventions are deliberately contemporary but simple, allowing the original building to remain an important and recognisable part of the completed village hall.
Securing planning permission is an important milestone for the project, but there is still plenty happening behind the scenes. The design team is now progressing the detailed technical information, coordinating structure, building services and energy systems, while also working through the planning conditions and preparing the project for Building Control and tender.
It is exciting to see the project move another significant step closer to becoming a reality, and we look forward to sharing more as the detailed design develops and the project moves towards construction.
