Works have now commenced on site at No.24, marking the start of an exciting new chapter for this Cambridge property.
The project is particularly interesting as it builds upon the evolution and growth of the house over time. An extension added during the 1990s created a substantial secondary wing to the property, and the current proposals continue that story by carefully adapting the building to create two independent homes while retaining its overall character and presence within the Conservation Area.
Early works have focused on enabling and demolition activities, allowing the existing structure to be prepared for the next stages of construction. While there is currently little indication of the completed transformation, these first steps are paving the way for the changes to come.
One of the most interesting aspects of this project is that so much of the work takes place within the existing building envelope. Rather than relying on large extensions, the design seeks to work with the existing structure, carefully adapting and reconfiguring spaces to create two distinct and independent homes. A modest front extension has been introduced to provide the new dwelling with its own identity and sense of arrival, while ensuring the original house retains its established character and presence within the street scene.
Over the coming months, the new layouts will begin to emerge, structural alterations will take shape, and the vision behind the approved proposals will gradually become visible. For now, the site remains firmly in the construction phase, but it is always exciting to see a project move from drawings and planning approvals into reality.
