Technical Design & Delivery

lvp architects were appointed following planning approval to support the delivery of a new-build dwelling in Cambridge.

The role focused on taking the approved scheme and carefully working it through the technical stages, translating the design intent into clear, buildable information to support building control approval and tendering.

Context

With planning consent already in place, the project required a considered technical approach to ensure that the approved design could be delivered as intended. The emphasis was on design progression, clarity, coordination, and resolving key elements in sufficient detail to support construction.

The appointment sat at the point where drawings move from concept into reality, requiring close attention to scale, proportion, details, materials and how spaces and elements come together in practice.

Design Development

A central part of the work involved refining the internal layout and developing detailed designs for the stair and bespoke carpentry elements. These were treated as integral parts of the architecture rather than secondary components, with careful consideration given to how they are experienced within the home.

The external appearance was also reviewed and developed further, ensuring that materials, junctions, and proportions aligned with the approved elevations while responding to practical construction considerations.

Technical Information

After design progression, where design elements and material principles where established, lvp architects prepared a coordinated set of drawings and details for building control and tender purposes, providing a clear and comprehensive package to support the next stages of the project.

The information was developed to communicate intent clearly, reduce uncertainty on site, and support accurate pricing, allowing the project to move forward with confidence.

Next Steps

With the technical stage complete, the project is now moving on site using the coordinated packages of information prepared for building control and construction. These include lighting layouts, drainage and water strategies, electrical layouts, and detailed construction drawings, providing a clear framework for delivery.

The scheme is progressing through construction, with completion targeted for the end of the summer period.
